“Everything was going well – until four invoices went unpaid”

Discover the story of Thomas Toxopeus from New Energy Printing in the video

As a salesman, Thomas Toxopeus had gained the necessary experience before starting his own business, New Energy Printing. The basic idea was intermediary printing. But he soon started to focus on book production. He does not print himself but rather figures out where best to get book contracts fulfilled in the Netherlands, Europe, or the rest of the world. Book circulations vary from a few hundred to tens of thousands.

Thomas Toxopeus is literally and figuratively all energy. His company New Energy Printing is booming. But four years ago, things looked different. When four large invoices were not paid, the lights went out for a while. But that won’t happen again. Read his story here or watch the interview we conducted with him.

“It was hard work, especially in the early years. We had to return every euro. At first, my wife still had an income. We lived from that. But that disappeared when - after a year and a half - she also entered the business. We worked very hard together. We started in an attic. Now we are in a beautiful corporate building with 10 employees”.

“Success leaves you wanting more. You actually don’t notice that you are functioning at the top of your abilities. In the sixth year, four major invoices were not paid. That literally made me sick. It completely destroyed me, and I suffered a serious burnout”.

That blow seems like a long time ago. Thomas has recovered well. “But there is one thing I certainly don’t want any more: those sleepless nights because of the fear that invoices will not be paid. I have been working with trade credit insurance ever since. It costs something, but I get a good night’s sleep and work satisfaction in return”.

Thomas has plenty of plans for growth. He would like to roll out his book concept in Europe. He is also working on a new product: custom printed boxes. “We are starting to work at a more international level. For example, in the US. We hardly know the companies we do business with. That’s when it’s nice to be able to discuss creditworthiness with your credit insurer”.

A trade credit insurance helps you and your company. It provides peace and security for entrepreneurs. How? With a trade credit insurance, you know that your invoices will be paid.

Your company maintains financial health through well-organised accounts receivable management. And your cash flow is protected as well. With a customer check in advance, you know precisely which opportunities you can seize. And that works out well.
